Barbara Sullivan is a New York City–based artist working across painting, photography, drawing, and mixed materials. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, her work has been exhibited in Hamburg, Berlin, and New York City, and utilized in music, film, and theater.

Her practice explores psychological and emotional narratives, focusing on the human presence as both exposed and resilient. In her photographic work she investigates perception and ambiguity through low light and long exposure, favoring the “indecisive moment”—images that resist clarity and invite the viewer to navigate their own psychological response. Her recent painting shifts toward a more immediate, expressionistic approach, incorporating drawing and mixed materials, and draws inspiration from 1920s Berlin nightlife—its performance, transformation, and self-invention. An ongoing thread is the dancehall, approached as a space of fluid identity and exchange.
